Strangers Of Necessity
Strangers Of Necessity
Nov 2015
CoryaYo is the producer, and Fooch is the emcee; and we make up the Midwest duo, Strangers Of Necessity.
CoryaYo is originally from Iowa City, Iowa, but is now living in Chicago, Illinois, and Fooch is originally from Chicago but is now living in Iowa City.
CoryaYo works part-time at a movie theater, and Fooch is a digital CI press operator; but we’re both fully involved in creating new material and making good music for our fans. We’re also hoping to go on tour soon…
Fooch has been rapping since high school but didn’t start taking it serious until late 2009. CoryaYo was also involved with music at an early age: playing the guitar, piano and collecting records. He’s been making beats since 2011, though.
It was dope! Fooch had performed many times before—so he was used to it—but CoryaYo was fresh meat and said, “It felt good to get a positive response from the music he’d created.” We’ve gotten a lot of love at all the shows we’ve done so far.
A catalog of great, timeless music; to be able to make a living and provide for ourselves doing what we love; to be our own definition of successful; and to be respected as quality artists.
The goose bumps we get when we listen to dope music is what we want our fans to feel when they listen to our music. We just want to give the people good vibes.
ATCQ, Boot Camp Clik, Nas, Gang Starr, Slum Village, Dilla, Common, Pete Rock, Wu Tang—mostly any early- to mid-90s hip-hop, jazz, soul, funk, rock—that whole Motown sound… We both grew up listening to our moms’ records. Any type of music that just makes you feel good.
Working on music or just creating in general, being our own managers, work for Fooch (he be on that graveyard shift).
We’re currently promoting our one year anniversary, limited edition, orange cassette tape release of our first album, Tangerine Avenue, which is available through indie record label, Radio Juicy, based out of Heidelberg, Germany. We also just recently released a video for Casper, the first single off our upcoming, currently untitled, project. But, right now, we’re actively increasing our catalog and creating as much new content as possible, building our brand, and connecting with heads that’re on the same page creatively. We’re not doing what everyone else is doing. We aren’t following trends or trying to fit in. We just want to make dope music for heads to vibe to.
