July 2014
My name’s Skeem Price.
I’m from Pomona, California.
I guess you could call me an artist… [laughs] But, yeah, I do music, art, modeling—I’m just a creative person at heat. I have a big hip-hop background; my family’s really into the L.A. rap scene, has been for years.
I started really getting into music when I was young. I remember digging through my mom’s records and scratching ‘em up on her turntable. I used to get busted every time! [laughs] And then it was rap: banging Ice Cube, N.W.A, Geto Boys and stuff like that. Not before long, I started writing my own poetry and raps when I was 12, and I’ve just been doing it ever since.
My first performance, shoot…I really don’t really remember how it went. I’m pretty sure I was nervous w/ butterflies in my belly.
I would like to gain more notoriety from my music/projects. And, of course, financial freedom—everyone wants that. But what’s most important is the message. I’ve lost a few friends to the “ills” of tryna do things to get to that level. I just wanna bring positivity and knowledge to the art, and do it in a fresh way.
I want people to understand the sincerity of my art: I put my heart and soul into everything I do. I know I can’t please everyone, but I’m gonna be as genuine as I can be, so you know it’s real.
My biggest influences, man, so many… My mom, she’s number one. Musically, it’s deep—from Sade to Mobb Deep, it varies. I’m a big art fan, too. Warhol, Basquiat, all that. But I’m really influenced by anyone who’s very successful at what they do. That’s what motivates me the most.
What keeps me up at night? “These dreams…” [Kanye voice]
Well, I have a project coming out with the homie KornBread that’s dropping this summer… No date yet, but it’ll be sometime this month, so keep an eye out for that. Then, I’m gonna drop a solo joint around September, so look out for that, too. I’ve also been putting together my acting/modeling stuff, so if you see me on the tube or in a mag, it’s not a fluke; I’m just working as much as I can.
