Who are you?
I go by Obsidian or Sid for short.
Where do you live?
From a small, but crazy hood called Pinedale, California, located in uptown Fresno.
What do you do?
I drop vocals, live performances, freestyles, paidstyles, battle, and I will ghostwrite for a small fee.
When did you start?
I used to always bust freestyles when I was drunk and/or stoned, but I really got serious about music when I joined the Freekshow Crew in 1997.
How was your first show/performance?
Well, in the 5th grade I rocked a talent show to someone else’s song. But my first show was at Centro Bellas Arte in Chinatown. The spot doesn’t exist anymore, but I loved performing there. It was so tight and ghetto at the same time.
What would you like to gain from your work?
I just want to be comfortable in life, make my music, and rock shows internationally.
What would you like your audience to gain from your work?
I would like the audience to feel me and my struggle of being an underground MC. I want them to know that hip-hop isn’t dead, and can and will be resurrected.
Who or what are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are my crew members—I fuck with a sick team! We grew up together, so it just worked out this way. Sometimes the roots go as far back as our grandparents kicking with each other back in the day. So, yeah, we’re close like that.
What keeps you up at night?
Beats that make my pen leak on pages without any force; where it just flows together. Working on my projects and anything that supports the Gigadee Crew, UNDR RPBLC, Lurk Hard and Iner’s Tattoo. That’s my familia, ya dig!
What’s next?
Push the AbombaNationZ album and probably fuck with a label or start my own. Try to tour anywhere and everywhere, put my folks on, and rep the “No” and my hood—big Pinedale, 936-fuka-5-0!
