Noa James

Who are you?

Noa James, aka Mr. Vorhees: forty whores deep, ready for an orgy. An artist and promoter who’s trying to build something that’ll last. I’m out here helping people get to where they want to be. A young man who finally understands this business, but I’m doing it my own way and making progress. A man who’s learned how to shut the fuck up and just listen. I am my grandmother’s son.

Where do you live?

Inland Empire, California.

What do you do?

I destroy the English language and reconstruct it as my own, then put it out to the public and hope they understand me as an artist. I create avenues for artists (musicians, fashion designers, painters, poets, etc.) to showcase their art and be free of the politics of the industry for once.

When did you start?

I’ve be rapping since the age of 13: entering battles, ciphers and open mics. When I turned 22, I started taking music seriously, because I knew entering this business was going to be hard. I ran with it like a marathon; this wasn’t going to be developed overnight. In 2005, I started throwing my own shows after performing at my first pay-to-play show. I saw what the others had done, and knew I could do the same, but without their pay-to-play stipulations.

How was your first show/performance?

My first official show with my name on the flyer was at BB’s Bar & Grill in Riverside, California: But it got cancelled. The dope thing was people still showed up and we just ciphered in the parking lot, like usual.

What would you like to gain from your work?

I want to be known as an artist who isn’t scared to be himself and be honest in the industry. To be known as a hard worker like Murs, Tech N9ne and E-40. I want to be able to pay my bills off this music and buy my baby that white Range she wants. With promoting, I want to get to a level where I can throw larger shows and festivals showcasing multiple genres of music.

What would you like your audience to gain from your work?

I just want people to understand where I’m coming from as a writer. For the shows, I want to throw the ones that people always anticipate attending.

Who or what are your biggest influences?

My grandparents influence me a lot, they’ve taught me a lot of things that I use in my music and daily life. Success influences me to be more successful. Just seeing my dreams come true this past year has made me want to be more successful and make more of my dreams come true.

What keeps you up at night?

Business. I’m up e-mailing people, promoting and writing. I’m more of a night owl, anyhow.

What’s next?

Health. Branding my businesses more (BrickToYaFace.com/Black Cloud Music). Taking The Common Ground on the road, taking my music overseas and continuing along on my path.
