Who are you?
MC Melodee.
Where do you live?
Amsterdam, Netherlands.
What do you do?
I’m an emcee, writer, performer and entrepreneur. Dutch rap queen. Love junkie.
When did you start?
I started writing rhymes and performing on stage when I was 16.
How was your first show/performance?
My first performance took place at a rap battle in a small hip-hop bar in Eindhoven. I was battling the only other female emcee in the place. It was good fun, the place was packed, and I won!
What would you like to gain from your work?
Happiness. I make the music I love without concession. I love to rock stages all over the world and blow people away with my performances. Also, I want to keep on growing and crafting my skills as an emcee/performing artist and become the best I can be.
What would you like your audience to gain from your work?
My goal’s to make people feel good with my music and performances. I love to reach as many people as I can worldwide and show them there’s still good hip-hop music coming out these days.
Who or what are your biggest influences?
Back in the day that would be Nas and Biggie: They really inspired me with their songs, lyrics and flows.
What keeps you up at night?
Several things. I don’t usually sleep much… [laughs] Creating songs, doing online promo, too many Red Bull vodkas at my show earlier that night, the fear of missing my flight the next morning—and the list goes on…
What’s next?
This year I’m releasing 3 EPs. The first EP was In My Zone and came out in February. The second EP, Coolin, came out a month ago. And this fall I’m releasing the third EP, Crunch Time. Also, I just did my first European tour, and I have more shows coming up worldwide. I’m releasing an album called FAM in collaboration with a dope all-female hip-hop crew from Sweden which will be released this November. For more updates keep an eye on my site. http://mcmelodee.com
