My name’s MaLLy.
I currently reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I’m a hip-hop artist, mentor and board member for different non-profits in the Twin Cities area.
I started writing when I was 14 but didn’t take music seriously until I was 22.
My first show was at this nightclub in St. Paul called Station 4. 100+ people showed up, and I remember drinking 2 Long Island iced teas and snacking a basket of fries to calm my nerves. I had a 30-minute set, and I absolutely destroyed it. God was with me that night because people were blown away and couldn’t believe it was only my first performance.
Recognition, VIP passes to boxing matches in Vegas, a Grammy, all the donuts, respect for my craft as being an emcee, and access into schools, jails and businesses to speak with people from all walks of life.
A full understanding from a black man’s perspective that grew up having to work for everything—no father, dysfunctional family, adversity in private school/corporate America—and lived to tell his story. I want my audience to know that anything’s possible when you believe in yourself, keep love in your heart and live in the present at all times.
Tupac Shakur, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Joe Budden, Skyzoo, Jay Z, and Bridgette and Eddye Watkins.
Wondering if I’m truly carrying out God’s will through my music and sharing my light properly as a result of his plan and his power. I tend to worry that my mother and grandmother will pass before I have it all figured out, and that I might be lost out here without them.
I want to release some music videos for a few more songs off my album The Colors of Black. Also, after I finish up the Home Away From Home tour with Brother Ali, Bambu and DJ Last Word, I want to start working on new music. I’m not sure I want to release an album just yet, but I do want to work with DJ Last Word, The Sundance Kid, Medium Zach and BK-One if things line up properly.
