Who are you?

I’m Layne Harper: no stage name, no alias to go by… Just Layne Harper. I was born with this name, and I’m going to die with this name.

Where do you live?

Currently, I reside in Tampa, Florida, but I’m originally from Memphis, Tennessee.

What do you do?

I provide realistic music for the listeners. I speak on topics that other artists may be afraid to. I want the world to have music that’s refreshing—not the same watered down, stereotypical pop music.

When did you start?

I started writing at the age of 5, but got more serious about rhyming when I hit middle school. I was always the student that instead of paying attention in class was too busy writing lyrics and developing crazy concepts for new songs.

How was your first show/performance?

Energetic. I kept the crowd on their feet. I made sure from the beginning that I had their attention before I even came from backstage. Once I heard the audience interact off what I was saying, I came out and gave an epic performance.

What would you like to gain from your work?

Hearts and ears. I want the listener to relate with what I’m saying whether it’s emotional or not. I want them to be engaged through what I’m expressing in song.

What would you like your audience to gain from your work?

I would like for my audience to respect me for being me, and realize that there are artists out who enjoy creating new, original music. I want the audience to appreciate my music and recognize all the hard work and emotion I put into it.

Who or what are your biggest influences?

My sons are my biggest influences. I do this for them. I want them to know we all have goals we want to achieve. I mean, this is something I’ve dreamt of doing since I was a kid, and I’ve kept at it no matter what obstacles were laid out in front of me.

What keeps you up at night?

Honestly, what keeps me up at night is everything that’s happened throughout the day. I set a goal to achieve when I wake up and make sure it’s complete before I go to sleep. If not, I can’t go to sleep until my task is completed. With that being said, the tweets on Twitter, keeping fans updated of what I’m up to on Facebook, checking YouTube to see my views, handling business calls and making sure all deadlines have been met.

What’s next?

Being the best artist I can possibly be. I’m not a temporary artist or a one hit wonder. I’m here to stay, point blank.
