E-Dubb Da Boss, artist and CEO of Double or Nothing Entertainment.
“Da Cilla.” Racine, Wisconsin.
Entrepreneur. I do what I gotta. I manage artists, I do music production (not beatmaking) and have formal recording training. I market and promote acts in various genres of music: hip-hop, rap, R&B and gospel. I’m also an artist signed to myself.
I’ve been hustling for as long as I can remember. I’ve been doing music production since 2004; the same year we dropped Double or Nothing the album.
My first show was cool, right in Racine at a spot on De Koven Avenue. I was so nervous—I kept switching hands with the mic ‘cause I was shaking—didn’t want to forget my verse. When I started rapping and they started digging it, it was cool. It all came naturally after that.
Self-gratification and monetary gain, ya dig? It makes me feel good when I can give a young cat a chance to be something. I feel like this platform that I make available could’ve been a lifesaver had somebody done the same for me and my dudes when we was coming up. This would have kept us outta so much trouble… I’ve got too many loved ones dead or in jail. If we blow-up and get bread, that couldn’t hurt either.
I want my audience to be able to vibe. I know that I’m not the only one that gets tired of the music that’s forced upon us by popular radio. I make music for the hood. That’s why I recoup on every album. We have core fans that want to hear our music. They need it. I also want them to take something from each song, whether it be a lesson or just the motivation to do something.
My pops. He was an entertainer from the blues era, and he always talked to me about the music business. My other influences are my kids and my community. I love Racine. Why you think I stay?
Ambition. I stay thinking ahead; always plotting my next move. I’ve got kids to feed, man. All work no play wit’ me, plus I’m in school.
[Breathes deep] We got the Racine’s Most Wanted mix CD out now, you can download that for free. I’ve got my solo album Omerta dropping early 2010. The Westside Connect mix CD with Me, Cilla and Stromile is in the works—just putting the finishing touches on that. Got new albums coming from Ms. Crysto and August Rush. Yung Cilla’s working on his new album tentatively titled Cilla. Also, be on the look out for CillaMADE DVD Magazine brought to by the ‘Real’ Rocko. 100.
